I have (never) grown up…

…riding, and maintaining, my own bikes in the hayday of mountain biking, reading MBUK and trying (but not succeeding) to emulate the late great Jason McRoy on South Downs singletrack….

I have long-distance commuted by bicycle…

….in all weathers, all-year round for years, because it kept me fit and sane, and was a lot more fun than sitting in traffic. I have ridden from Edinburgh to London, 500miles in 5 days with a great crew for SSAFA. I have ridden from Bangor (in North Wales) to Bath (215miles) in a day, to raise money for SANDs and to see how I’d cope - with regular nutrition and fluid intake, the body is remarkable….

I have started racing mountain bike enduros…

…inspired by following EWS and watching World Cup Downhill on Red Bull TV; because it turns out going as fast as you can, and riding new and challenging tracks, is a massive buzz; the next event on the horizon helps me get out of bed early to train, before the school run….

I ride with my mates…

…often at night with bright lights, and laugh about it in the pub, because our lives are busy and it helps me get ‘over the hump’.

I have travelled with my bikes…

…and ridden in Alaska, California, France, Spain and New Zealand, along with my favourite haunts in the UK. My new favourite trails are at ‘The Golfie’, Innerleithen, in Scotland, but that’s a fair old trek so you’ll often find me on the local trails or at nearby Forest of Dean (FoD)!

I have shared my love of riding bikes with our kids from a young age…

…riding MTB trails at the FoD, Wales and in the Lake District, and have been thrilled to see how riding has helped empower them for life..…

I have professionally qualified

…as a Bicycle Mechanic at The Bike Inn, in Cumbria, refining my skills, boosting my knowledge and broadening further into areas such as wheel building and suspension, and advanced technologies such as electronic shifting and e-bikes. I have practiced my craft on my own bikes, and friends’ bikes, before having the privilege of working on yours, and definitely learned from my own mistakes!

I have invested (and continue to invest) in the best tools…

…to give all bikes the love they deserve. I started off with a Unior Pro Kit (Unior are a very high quality Slovenian brand) and have augmented this kit with quality tools from Birzman, Park Tool, Wera and specially selected additions.

I have been blown away by e-bikes…

…having ridden with a new buddy who sustained a serious injury, and who still tames big mountain trails on a full-suspension e-bike! It’s been amazing to see so many people use e-bikes instead of cars for commuting, school runs and daily life!

I have designed and built my own steel bicycle frame…

…at The Bicycle Academy in Frome! This included a professional bike fit, bike design and then fabricating a handmade steel bicycle! Not only was this a ‘bucket list’ experience, but so many broader lessons were gleaned from working with their team and guest teachers….. check our instagram feed for the forthcoming build!

I am dedicated to running an environmentally conscious business

…offering both workshop and mobile servicing (and collection / delivery) by e-cargo bike (give me a wave if you see the BBH Goat logo) , advocating e-bikes (especially as legitimate car replacements), and seeking out the most sustainable components, products and companies to partner with. In future, in addition to removing litter from trails whenever I ride, I am keen to get involved in more initiatives….. watch this space!

Bath Bike Hub exists to:

Give You Fast, Smooth, Safe, Grin-Inducing Bikes;

Help You Get Out Riding and Enjoying Bikes More;

Do All That We Can for The Planet.

As with many a small business starting up, for now it is just me….. but with some exciting collaborations in the pipeline.

Here’s why Bath Bike Hub…

So why the Mountain Goat Logo?!?

No it’s not me - my beard could never look that cool.

I started off with a very corporate logo, with a sketch of Pulteney Weir and a green bike… which looked smart but lacked personality. Easily forgotten. So I drew the Bath Bike Hub Mountain GOAT. My close friends and family approved.

Mountain Goats are renowned as amazing mountain climbers, with an incredible ability to scale the steepest slopes….

‘G.O.A.T’ stands for the ‘Greatest of All Time’ and has been used to describe some incredible athletes, especially in cycling. It’s not a bad aspiration for our customer service……

Our GOAT can also ride a bike….
